Madeira-New York all year round

The Madeira Promotion Bureau and the SATA Group welcome the launch of a year-round Madeira-New York operation, starting on November 3, 2022.

Azores Airlines carries out this operation with the support of the Autonomous Region of Madeira through the Madeira Promotion Bureau. In addition, there will be co-branding campaigns and joint promotional activities in the United States of America, thus continuing and strengthening all the work and efforts invested in the North American market.

Azores Airlines will operate once a week. During the IATA Winter season, the departure from New York will be on Thursdays at 9:20 pm (local time) and the arrival in Madeira at 8:35 am (local time) the following day. The Madeira-New York connection, in turn, will depart on Fridays, departing at 5:05 pm and arriving in New York at 7:55 pm.

From the IATA Summer 2023 (which begins on March 26), the departure from New York will be on Mondays, at 8:55 pm (local), with arrival in Funchal the next day, more precisely at 9:00 am (local). The Madeira-New York connection will take place on Tuesday, departing at 4 pm and arriving in New York at 6:50 pm.

For the President of the Board of Madeira Promotion Bureau and Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, “this is a moment of great satisfaction for the Autonomous Region with the innovative Madeira-New York operation all year round. After the first direct flights between Madeira and JFK Airport, as of November 2021, we have created the conditions to continuously expand connections from one season to the other, which is significant for those who wish to travel and for the market due to the confidence it conveys.
A word of recognition to the SATA Group for the permanent dialogue it has maintained with Madeira, which has allowed things to happen.”

SATA's Marketing and Sales Director Graça Silva highlights that “the possibility of continuing the work developed over recent years with the Autonomous Region of Madeira, offering year-round air connections, allows us to consolidate our position with a market that has enormous potential and to collaborate in the development of an extraordinary destination. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the extension of this operation to the whole year, which is consolidated after two years of working together. Assured of the importance of this flight, we are looking forward to a period of work that, we believe, will be fertile in achievements”.

The first Madeira-New York direct connection, last IATA Winter, took place on November 29, 2021, and continued until May 24, 2022. During this period, 19 frequencies were operated, and a total of 4,041 passengers were carried.
