Weapons and ammunitions

If you are going to transport any of the items below, please visit a SATA Azores Airlines Sales Office, contact our Contact Center (+351 296 109 720 or info@sata.pt) or your Travel Agency to book them in advance.

You must attend the airport at the check-in desk opening time so that all the necessary documentation is completed in time to ensure that the requested service is provided.

 

Conditions required for transportation of Weapons and Ammunition
Type of article Conditions required Transportation
Weapons not considered firearms (eg: swords, daggers, bows, etc.) - Suitably packed in a hard-shelled box or container;
- Signed document excluding airline liability for damages or loss;
- We recommend the acquisition of an insurance for the transportation of such articles.
Allowed as hold baggage on all flights
Small caliber firearms, hunting firearms or sporting firearms - An arms license will need to be presented to the police at the airport and a security form will need to be filled out;
- Properly packaged, unloaded and protected with a safety device, transported in proper cases, box or rigid container;
- The package must be locked with a personal safety device (e.g. padlock; coded locking system, etc.).
- Arms should be packed separately from the ammunition;
- Signed document excluding airline liability for damages or loss;
- We recommend the acquisition of insurance for the transportation of such articles.
Allowed as hold baggage on flights within Portugal only
Ammunition for small caliber, hunting or sporting firearms - An arms license will need to be presented to the police at the airport and a security form will need to be filled out;
- Ammunition must be transported in an appropriate packaging for the purpose, box or rigid container, protected against possible shocks and prevented from moving inside, separate from the weapon and cannot weigh more than 5 kg for each box/passenger;
- Signed document excluding airline liability for damages or loss.
Allowed as hold baggage on flights within Portugal only
War arms and ammunition, incendiary or explosive arms or others that may endanger the safety of an aircraft Only permitted with the authorization and approval of the Autoridade Nacional de Segurança da Aviação Civil (ANSAC).
