Azores Airlines reaches historical record in cargo transport on Airbus A321 Neo

The airline Azores Airlines has reached a historical record in cargo and mail transport since it began operating with Airbus A321 Neo equipment.

On a single connection between Ponta Delgada and Lisbon, it transported more than 11 tons of cargo and mail, including 7 tons of fresh fish and 2.5 tons of pineapple, which corresponded to approximately 10 tons of food for the Portuguese mainland.

It is a sign that everything has been done to ensure that the economic activity in the Archipelago of the Azores gradually resurfaces. It is a reason for pride for the SATA Group airline company that has sought to adjust its air operation to the needs felt in the Archipelago, in close collaboration with the Azores Fishermen's Association, the shippers, and its clients.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the airline has ensured a daily flight to transport cargo between mainland Portugal (Lisbon and Porto) and the Azores. It later adjusted the operation to ensure the transport of fresh fish and other food items in the direction of Ponta Delgada / Lisbon, to bring Azores' freshest products to the Portuguese mainland.

In the balance made last month, in the period between March 30 and April 30, Azores Airlines counted 33 cargo flights to the Archipelago, having transported about 286 tons of cargo and mail, being that 254 tons transported corresponded to goods of first necessity and material for hospital use.
