Azores Airlines will extend the direct air connections between Ponta Delgada and Barcelona year around, starting on October 4, 2023. Throughout the IATA 2023/24 Winter season, there will be two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays. Currently, the airline operates three flights a week in summer, departing on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights to Barcelona leave from Ponta Delgada at 8:10 am and depart from Barcelona to Ponta Delgada at 2:30 pm.
Teresa Gonçalves, Azores Airlines' CEO, referred that the extension of the air operation pursues several objectives and makes it possible to consolidate the presence of Azores Airlines in a market of enormous potential, mitigating the destination's seasonality. “Barcelona Airport is the busiest in Catalonia and the second in Spain. And we are very confident in the attractiveness of our route. In summer, this connection's demand by passengers departing from New York or Boston who wish to reach Europe via the Azores is significant, which allows us to anticipate that we will have demand, in addition to the point-to-point connection”, says the airline's CEO.
This extension's commercial promotion is already underway through local tour operators, betting on familiarization visits with the Azores destination. Soon, in the upcoming weeks and at all sales points, unique price campaigns are expected to be promoted for bookings after September.
