Azores Airlines completes another mission to transport essential goods

Azores Airlines concludes another mission to transport hospital equipment and medicines. This time to Santiago Island, Cape Verde.

It was 10:37 PM in Lisbon when the Airbus A321 Neo of Azores Airlines took to the runway of Humberto Delgado Airport, after completing the mission entrusted to it by the Government of Cape Verde. The objective of this extraordinary flight was to ensure the transport of some hospital equipment and medicines, a reinforcement considered necessary, given the situation of global COVID-19 pandemic.

The flight operated by the Azorean carrier registered its landing in the city of Praia, Santiago Island, at 3:40 PM (local time) and returned to Lisbon the same day.

This cargo flight thus joins the set of flights for cargo transport, which the Azorean airline has ensured between mainland Portugal and São Miguel Island, Archipelago of the Azores, and between the nine islands of the Azorean Archipelago, through SATA Air Açores.

Since March 20, the two SATA Group carriers SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines, have allocated all available means to meet the daily needs of those living in the Archipelago of the Azores. Daily flights are performed for the transport of necessities, hospital equipment, and medicines, both between the islands of the Archipelago and from mainland Portugal to São Miguel Island.

Likewise, the transportation of goods between the Archipelago of the Azores and mainland Portugal has been assured to ensure the continuity of economic activity.

Simultaneously, and whenever possible, Azores Airlines has ensured extraordinary flights for repatriation or to secure the transport of essential goods.
