SATA Group leads in the Azores

SATA Air Açores is the airline with the highest number of registered flight movements.
Azores Airlines is the airline with the highest number of passengers.

According to the latest Statistical Bulletin Quarter, SATA Group's airlines were responsible for 78% of the air traffic registered at Ponta Delgada Airport, the main getaway to the archipelago, between April and June 2023.
It represents an increase of 5.0 percentage points (p.p.) compared to the same period of 2022.

According to the same source, SATA Group's airlines were responsible for 65% of passenger traffic recorded at that airport.
SATA Air Açores leads the list of airlines that recorded the most flight movements during the reviewed months, with 52% of the total flight movements versus 49% recorded in 2022.

Azores Airlines, which ensures connections between the Azores and abroad, was responsible for 26% of flight movements, well above the 9% recorded by the third operator with the most flight movements registered at that airport.

Regarding passengers transported, Azores Airlines leads with 39%. SATA Air Açores is in second place with 26% of recorded traffic, higher than recorded in the same period of 2022 (35% and 24%, respectively).

SATA Group's airlines were, thus, the main ones with the most significant annual evolution in the number of passengers transported in the second quarter of 2023 at the Ponta Delgada Airport (+22.87% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022) when compared to the TOP 5 of national airports.

We recall that the airlines of the SATA Group exceeded expectations when they reached the symbolic mark of one million passengers transported in 2023, two months earlier than the previous year. The evolution represented an increase of 34% in the number of passengers transported compared to 2022.

During the IATA 2023 summer season  (between March 28 and October 28), the airline SATA Air Açores is estimated to operate about 13,300 flights (+5% compared to the same period of 2022), and Azores Airlines has planned to operate about 6,300 flights (+12% compared to the same period of 2022).
