SATA provides oxygen to passengers with some needs; to obtain the service, please request it at the time of booking or up to 48 hours before your departure flight. On board SATA is not allowed the transportation of supplementary oxygen units provided by passengers. Acceptance of this oxygen service is subject to the airline's approval and the presentation of the medical document (INCAD) duly completed by the attending physician, certifying the passenger's fitness to travel. The passenger must travel accompanied by a doctor, nurse, or a companion over the age of 18 who can handle the oxygen equipment or may travel unaccompanied if they can administer it independently. As a rule, the INCAD must be issued within 15 days before travel, except in cases of stable chronic medical conditions or the use of authorized portable medical devices, provided that no significant changes have occurred. The request must be submitted for review up to 48 hours before the flight's departure.
For each SATA flight, a fee will be charged to the passenger. Please request information concerning the chargeable value through the Contact Center or at one of our offices.
What is a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC)?
A Portable Oxygen concentrator is an electronic device used to provide oxygen at a substantially higher concentration than that of ambient air and is an alternative to using compressed oxygen cylinders. POCs allow chronic oxygen therapy patients to maintain their mobility and travel freely.
Acceptance of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC)
To be approved for use onboard a SATA flight, your POC must meet the following criteria:
- It displays a manufacturer’s label that indicates the device conforms to all applicable FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) acceptance criteria for POC carriage and use on board aircraft.
- The device appears on the list of approved POC models by FAA and accepted by SATA Airlines for use in-flight (if your POC is not included in the list, it will be analyzed by us to be able to transport and use permit on board of our aircraft).

- What is a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)?
It is a medical device that introduces air to continuous pressure in order to avoid blockage of the upper airway.
- Acceptance of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP):
The acceptance of these articles is subject to pre-reservation and confirmation by SATA and must be sent to the airline the medical clearance. This equipment’s may be carried free of charge as checked (properly packed – rigid and resisted container) or carry-on baggage and used on board, respecting the following procedures:
- Each battery used in the device or spares batteries shall not exceed:
- 8g for non-rechargeable batteries, or
- A maximum of 160 Wh for rechargeable batteries.
- The device must either be protected from inadvertent activation, or the battery must be disconnected and the battery terminals insulated (e.g. tapping the exposed terminals), or packing it in the original package, or placing each battery in a separate case;
- A maximum of two spare batteries are allowed;
- Each spare battery must be protected from short circuit by insulation of the battery terminals.
- Each battery used in the device or spares batteries shall not exceed:
- Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) and Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) - Kidney dialysis portable equipment
This equipment’s may be carried free of charge as checked (properly packed – rigid and resisted container) or as carry-on baggage, however cannot be used on board, and shall respected the acceptance procedures as the CPAC.
