Azores Airlines announces new direct connection between Terceira and Madeira Islands
Azores Airlines will introduce a new direct connection between Terceira Island (Lajes) and Madeira Island (Funchal), which will be included in the company's operational programme for the 2026 IATA summer season.
The Terceira–Madeira route is scheduled to start on 7 May, with one flight per week on Thursdays, increasing to two flights per week between June and September, the peak season. During the remaining months, the connection will continue with one flight per week.
Flights will depart from Terceira Island on Thursdays, returning the following day, and during the peak season, an additional flight will be added on Mondays, also returning the following day.
The introduction of this direct route allows passengers to access the Azores archipelago through two entry points - Ponta Delgada and Lajes - which brings flexibility in travel planning and diversifies options.
This new operation complements the existing connections via Ponta Delgada, allowing Azores Airlines to reach a total of 12 weekly frequencies between the Azores and Madeira archipelagos at the peak of the summer season.
The Lajes–Funchal route is the result of an update to the Public Service Obligations (PSO), which now include this connection in the range of flights between the two Portuguese archipelagos.
