Resident Passengers

The following passengers are eligible for the resident fare:

 

Citizens with regular residence and jurisdiction code in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ARA) with the following requirements at the time of the trip.

  • a) Portuguese citizens or from other country of the European Union or from any other country with which Portugal or the European Union has an agreement on the free movement of persons and that are residing in the ARA for at least 6 months. Must make proof of residence with the citizen card with address confirmation at the time of the purchase or taxpayer card and ID card/passport. If the identification document doesn’t contain information on habitual residence in the ARA, passengers must also present a document issued by the Portuguese Authorities containing that information. Citizens of the European Union must present a registration certificate or a certificate of permanent residence. Citizens from a country that is not a European Union member must present the valid authorization issued by the Portuguese Authorities – SEF (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras).
     
  • b) Family members of citizens of the European Union that are not from a Third Country by the terms of the art.2 of Law n.37/2006 from August 9th that have acquired the right of permanent residence in the Portuguese territory and are residing in the ARA for at least for 6 months. Must make proof of residence with taxpayer card and ID card/passport with address confirmation at the time of purchase, as well as a residence card/permanent residence card. If the document of identification doesn’t contain information on habitual residence in the ARA, passengers must also present the document issued by the Portuguese Authorities containing that information.
     
  • c) Citizens of any country with which Portugal has an agreement on the general status of equal rights and duties among Portuguese citizens and Third Countries that are residing in the ARA for at least 6 months. Must make proof of residence with taxpayer card and ID card/passport with address confirmation at the time of purchase, as well as residence card/permanent residence card. If the supporting document doesn’t contain information on the habitual residence in the ARA, passengers must also present a document issued by the Portuguese Authorities containing that information.

 

Non-resident passengers that meet the following requirements at the time of the trip are eligible for the resident fare.

  • a) Members of the Regional Government of the Azores and citizens performing public functions for the Regional Government of the Azores, even if residing in the ARA for less than 6 months. Must make proof of residence with the citizen card with address confirmation at the time of purchase or taxpayer card and ID card/passport, as well as a certificate issued by the government office.
     
  • b) Civil or military public administration employees displace on service duty, internal mobility, cession of public interest or under other mobility institutes foreseen in the ARA legislation, even if residing in the region for less than 6 months. Must make proof of residence with citizen card with address validation at the time of purchase or with taxpayer card and ID card/passport, as well as a certificate issued by the Public Administration containing the starting and finishing dates of the service commission/request or detachment, signed and stamped.
     
  • c) National workers or from any other European Union country/from the European Economic Area or from any other country with which Portugal or the European Union has an agreement on the free movement of persons or on the general status of equal rights and duties that are attached by a labor contract, even if it’s for less than a year, celebrated with the employer with head office or establishment in the ARA and under which the working place is in the ARA. Must make proof of residence with citizen card with address confirmation at the time of purchase or taxpayer card and ID card/passport. If the supporting identification document doesn’t contain information on habitual residence in the ARA, passengers must also present a document issued by the Portuguese Authorities containing that information. Citizens of the European Union must present a registration certificate or a certificate of permanent residence. Citizens of countries that are not members of the European Union must present valid authorization issued by the Portuguese Authorities (SEF), as well as a declaration issued by the employer containing the following information: - Name and identification of the passenger – taxpayer card ID card numbers – indication that the passenger is residing for more than 6 months – location of the enterprise/company in the ARA – validation from the enterprise/company in letter headed paper with name/signature/function and stamp. Note – the declaration is valid for 6 months after its release.

 

Note

  1. It’s understood as habitual residence, the place where a singular person is residing for at least 185 days per year due to personal and professional ties.
  2. In the absence of the citizen card or the taxpayer card and ID card the documents in support of corresponding requests can be accepted as long as containing all the previously mentioned information.
  3. It’s understood as countries with which there is an agreement on free movement of persons, the countries of the Schengen area.
  4. This fare cannot be applied if the passenger doesn’t present all necessary documentation at the time of issuing. If the passenger doesn’t prove eligibility at check-in, the ticket must be reissued to another applicable fare (according to the fare’s regulation). Not being possible, in those cases, reissuing/refunding to the resident fare.
